New opinions on old music, maybe.......hopefully. Join Simon and his rotating cast of goons and guests as they attempt to offer a slice of colour to retroactively reviewing albums and looking back at chart countdowns. Rock, Metal, Punk, Pop, Rap, Easy Listening, nothing is off limits probably aside from mumble-rap, we’re too old for that.

E52 - UK Chart Top 20 10/6/95 or Tinder? Completed It Mate
Wednesday Jul 06, 2022
Wednesday Jul 06, 2022
Heads up kids, take heed of that explicit tag.
It’s been nearly 2 years but FINALLY….. Fatty Gibbs has come back to the Personal Jukebox Podcast.
Simon welcomes back Gibbo to wax lyrical about back in the summer of ‘95 when they were but young pups. They discuss football, losing girlfriends, Gibbo’s online dating/real life relationship debauchery in some pretty lurid detail and have a good old singsong PLUS we have a special guest drop-in.
All of this as well as taking in the chart countdown from June 1995 which features the likes of Reef, Michael Jackson, Pulp, Livin’ Joy and Joshua Kaddison. This one is a definite must-listen.

E51 - Linkin Park - One More Light
Wednesday Jun 22, 2022
Wednesday Jun 22, 2022
Way back on an early episode of the podcast we looked at the 2001 debut album from Shinoda, Copperpot and the boys so let’s see how they rounded out their as-of-now resume with 2017’s One More Light.
Released barely 2 months before Chester’s death, the overall sound of the record is completely different to any of the previous output and divided an already fractious fanbase.
Copperpot’s no.1 fan Neil Strong hops onboard with Simon to dissect this one.

E50 - Foo Fighters - Foo Fighters
Thursday Jun 09, 2022
Thursday Jun 09, 2022
After Kurt Cobain’s suicide and the obvious end of Nirvana, drummer Dave Grohl was left with a pocket full of self-wrote songs but no band to record them so he B&Q’d it and completely recorded all parts himself.
Simon and Jukeboxpod fave Stewart Boyd dissect the debut album from (The?) Foo Fighters from 1995, long before the fully fleshed-out line-up became arena & festival fillers with a definite claim to be the layman’s ‘Biggest band in the world’ and work out if it’s any good.

E49 - Limp Bizkit - Still Sucks
Thursday May 26, 2022
Thursday May 26, 2022
Time for something a bit different as we take a look at an album only released in the last year.
Simon, Ning and the debuting Sammie hunker down and take in Limp’s latest offering to find out if it was worth the over-10 year wait, where it sits in the Bizkit cannon and what to do if attacked by a (polar)bear. We also cover all the stuff put out in the 11 year gap since 2011’s Gold Cobra and work out if it’s true that Dad’s got the sag in the back with a drip.
La-di-da!

E48 - Bon Jovi - Keep The Faith
Sunday May 08, 2022
Sunday May 08, 2022
Cock rock superstars Jovi’s 5th studio album was released slap-bang in the middle of the Grunge and alternative boom. Hence, Jon Bon and the boys were no longer wild in the street chasing bad medicine all across New Jersey and instead found themselves with a more mature sound, keeping the faith and laying their potential suitors down on beds of roses.
Simon manages to tie Mr. Metal himself, Gaz down and get him to take in the album. Will he be a convert to JBJ’s love song-centric style? Will Jovi’s good ol’ rock n roll turn his head? Will there be an end to world poverty?

E47 - Radiohead - Kid A
Sunday Apr 24, 2022
Sunday Apr 24, 2022
Ok, so you know the drill here. Simon is going to fire off the reverse swing googly and It’s Boyd’s job to bat those bad boys away… or so you’d think anyway.
After OK Computer, Radiohead’s Kid A album was hotly anticipated by the music press and the record buying public alike but did it live up to expectations? Put aside your preconceptions and listen to us dissect this one.

E46 - The Smiths - The Sound Of The Smiths
Monday Apr 11, 2022
Monday Apr 11, 2022
Most commentators would agree that mega-influential Manchester band The Smiths’ star shone bright and was extinguished far too soon. Indeed, the band’s debut album was released in February 1984 but they had played their final gig before the end of ‘86. In-fighting has plagued the group even since they have split whilst constant rumours of ‘getting the band back together’ persist.
Simon and Ning take a whistle stop tour through all of The biggest Smiths tracks put together on disc 1 of their 2008 compilation and offer their views on where The Smiths sit in the music pantheon.

E45 - System of a Down - Mezmerize
Sunday Mar 27, 2022
Sunday Mar 27, 2022
If our old mate Gaz was given the choice of a band to cover (NO SLAYER MAN!) then I guess he’d pick SOAD. Good job he’s on this episode talking shop about part one of 2005’s twin album release, Mezmerize.
Come listen and find out if the rumours are true and they did actually put all the good songs on this one.

The year is 2002. 2 major pop-culture touchstones could have been said to be on their respective 'comedowns' from massive critical acclaim but still baring the fruits of financial success, WWF wrestling/entertainment and Nu-Metal. So what better way to build a pile of dollar-dollar than to (tag) team up and put out an musical effort reworking the entrance themes of then-WWF wrestlers by legitimate bands and artists?
Simon is once again joined by Mr. Neil Strong to pick the bones out of this slice of metal-wrestling pie. Drowning Pool, Kid Rock, Our Lady Peace & Stereomud (me neither) all bare their wares for discussion in the usual Jukeboxpod way.

E43 - The Verve - Urban Hymns
Sunday Feb 27, 2022
Sunday Feb 27, 2022
The Verve released their third studio album Urban Hymns on 29 September 1997. It earned nearly unanimous critical praise upon its release, and went on to become the band's best-selling release and one of the biggest selling albums of the year but are we in agreement with the critics? Does the album hold up? Is there any substance aside from the big singles? Has Richard Ashcroft ever smiled?
Simon and Boyd head back to the late nineties to review said album in the jukeboxpod style. This is a good one.
