After Kurt Cobain’s suicide and the obvious end of Nirvana, drummer Dave Grohl was left with a pocket full of self-wrote songs but no band to record them so he B&Q’d it and completely recorded all parts himself.
Simon and Jukeboxpod fave Stewart Boyd dissect the debut album from (The?) Foo Fighters from 1995, long before the fully fleshed-out line-up became arena & festival fillers with a definite claim to be the layman’s ‘Biggest band in the world’ and work out if it’s any good.

Cock rock superstars Jovi’s 5th studio album was released slap-bang in the middle of the Grunge and alternative boom. Hence, Jon Bon and the boys were no longer wild in the street chasing bad medicine all across New Jersey and instead found themselves with a more mature sound, keeping the faith and laying their potential suitors down on beds of roses.
Simon manages to tie Mr. Metal himself, Gaz down and get him to take in the album. Will he be a convert to JBJ’s love song-centric style? Will Jovi’s good ol’ rock n roll turn his head? Will there be an end to world poverty?

Most commentators would agree that mega-influential Manchester band The Smiths’ star shone bright and was extinguished far too soon. Indeed, the band’s debut album was released in February 1984 but they had played their final gig before the end of ‘86. In-fighting has plagued the group even since they have split whilst constant rumours of ‘getting the band back together’ persist.
Simon and Ning take a whistle stop tour through all of The biggest Smiths tracks put together on disc 1 of their 2008 compilation and offer their views on where The Smiths sit in the music pantheon.

The Verve released their third studio album Urban Hymns on 29 September 1997. It earned nearly unanimous critical praise upon its release, and went on to become the band's best-selling release and one of the biggest selling albums of the year but are we in agreement with the critics? Does the album hold up? Is there any substance aside from the big singles? Has Richard Ashcroft ever smiled?
Simon and Boyd head back to the late nineties to review said album in the jukeboxpod style. This is a good one.
